I care about impacting the city of Cincinnati through music. I grew up in Florence Kentucky and have had amazing opportunities to travel internationally and perform thanks to music. I am passionate about sharing my knowledge and experiences with my students. I am a very active professional singing with the Cincinnati Opera, Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, the Vocal Arts Ensemble, Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra, and North American New Opera Workshop. I love the balance of a busy teaching and performace schdule!
From a young age I have been an active teacher. Advanced for my age I vividly remember tutoring my classmates in the Fourth grade. Throughout the rest of my schooling I served in some sort of volunteer tutor capacity, helping classmates and younger students. While in undergrad at DePauw University I served as an Orientation/First-Year Seminar Mentor, helping first year students adjust to campus academic and social life. I was employed for 3 years at the local Presbyterian Church as the adult and children’s choir conductor. I also was a music theory tutor for 3 years employed through the University’s work-study program. During my undergrad I also started teaching individual voice lessons. Through the my Master's degree at CCM I kept a small private studio of piano and voice students. I am now up to 26 students and work full time teaching and performing. I value a life full of performing and teaching, both equally important to fulfillment in my professional life. Through teaching I discover more about my own instrument and craft and through performance I have experiences which inform my teaching. I greatly enjoy the variety of students ages, styles, and backgrounds that I teach. I especially love working with beginners of all ages! It is rewarding to see how quickly beginning students make progress and how excited they are with the new experience and personal growth.
For voice I create my own custon lesson plans and use a variety of materials. Students will work on a great variety of repetorie from pop to renaissance. Students are encourgaed to learn to read music, with a great emphasis placed upon practical music theory. I aim to develop intellegent musical artists, foscuing upon intrepretation, critical thinking, historical considerations and creativity. For piano I general use the Faber and Faber method books unless I feel that a particular method would better benefit a specific student.
My teaching style is fast paced and dynamic quickly adapting to the needs of the individual student. I challenge my students by moving quickly through material but also ensure that lessons are fun and that music can be a means of relaxation. I adapt each lesson for the individual, their interests and their needs.
