Dean's List @Berklee College of Music
I am a passionate teacher who loves sharing the art of music. I started music when I toke guitar classes at 13 years old, a couple of years later I took a Jazz Seminary and translated classes English-Spanish with Berklee College of Music teachers. I started listening to Jazz but have played different styles from Rock to Salsa, Pop, Cumbia and Jazz. Gave guitar classes on my last two years of high school and went to Berklee College of Music for a masters in Jazz Composition. During college I recorded with several groups playing Guitar, Bass guitar and Jarana. Later I was Academic Director in a Private Music School where I coordinated the development of the educational program and system.
My teaching experience dates back to my high school where I taught guitar classes to beginner students and did live translations English-Spanish in an International Jazz Seminar. After College I was an Academic Director in a private music school for several years where we made an academic program focused on contemporary music giving the students the technic and knowledge on an instrument to play any style the student wants. I have found that each student has a different approach to music and as a teacher it is important to identify it so that I can facilitate as much as possible the proficiency and connection of the student with the instrument.
My method is a balanced approach between learning the technic to play the instrument and the harmony/theory involved with what the student is learning. For everything learned there are exercises with songs from any music style that the student would like to focus on. The objective on the classes is to give the student the elements to explore his sound, with a little understanding of harmony and how to apply it to the instrument the student can explore more his/her instrument and enjoy expressing art through music.
The key for the student to learn an instrument is applying what is learned in the instrument to the songs, styles and sounds the student is interested in. Each student has it's different learning speeds, interested and motivations, so I identify what moves the student to play an instrument and focus on the objectives that the student wants to achieve. I also emphasize the importance of knowing what you are doing, having the knowledge of how music is organized and how your instrument works is important to the development of the student skills, because through musical knowledge the student can explore and discover new sounds and ways of expression through the instrument.
Stephan is good with kids. His style of teaching works with my 8-year-old.
So far he has been very good. He is prepared, shared materials for her to practice with. He has been helpful and listens to my concerns, gives us tips and advice. He's been a good teacher and my daughter looks forward to practicing and lessons ever since.
