I am a passionate, caring and motivated teacher that identifies with music on every level. My love of music is clear through my passionate teaching and love of seeing others learn how to successfully be musicians without me. I have grown up with music since I was a young child and discovered that it was my future career when I was in middle school, having not looked back sense. Music allowed me to travel to China in 2019 and it was one of the most rewarding experiences I've ever had. I want to teach others how to set their own musical goals and I will be there to help them achieve them, before letting them become their own teacher and advocate.
My teaching experience has been recent, having taught at Capital City Lighthouse Charter School for a year, teaching music to elementary students, and then for two months at Jacksonville Lighthouse Charter School, also teaching music to elementary students. However, I have been playing clarinet for 12-13 years. I graduated Henderson State University with a bachelors degree in Instrumental Music Education in the spring of 2021. I have also been trained in vocal technique and been a member of both the Henderson State University Choir and Showband of Arkansas.
For every student, no matter the age, I first ask what they want to gain from this class/lesson. Once that has been determined, I make sure the student understands basic fundamentals of music using the Suzuki method, or the Feierabend method, depending on how old the student is. Taking into account what the student wants to achieve in lessons, I will then introduce music to them that will help them achieve their musical goals. I also teach proper breathing techniques to improve in either vocal or clarinet performance.
I am a teacher that understands that students move at different paces, because no two people are the same. I also understand that each student has different musical and artistic goals. I allow my students to set their own goals for lessons, as this places accountability on them and will help them grow more passionate for the art because they are more involved in the process of decision making. I will guide them to become musicians of their own, who no longer need my help. This is when I know I have been successful as a teacher.
