I'm energetic and enthusiastic. I am passionate about teaching music to students young and old. I have grown up in a musical environment, beginning with the children's choir at our church. I was a member of the choir from the time I was 3. At every opportunity I jumped for a chance to expand my musical background. Recorders in 3rd grade, clarinet in 4th. I was in school shows and performances. I love to express myself through music and the emotions that it can evoke. I was section leader in the band and chorus in High School and choose to pursue a musical path in college. I graduated in 2000 with my BM in vocal performance and have been instructing students ever since.
My experience began after college when I took on a few students in hopes of growing my own studio. I moved from PA to GA in hopes of finding more clients and getting a better hold on my new found independence. While in GA the opportunity to teach at the Conservatory of Piano presented intself. I jumped at the chance and moved to OH where I would spend the next 5 years teaching piano to students ages 3 and up. I loved the musical atmosphere but missed my other strengths. I moved back to GA to take a job where I would have a studio with students in voice, clarinet, saxophone and yes piano. I stayed in GA for 5 years and then moved to PA so I could go back to school and gain my Elementary Education Teaching Certificate. I have finished school and am now ready for the next adventure in my life.
My methods are intervolic reading for voice and piano. I also teach the intervals to clarinet and saxophone students. I feel it is important for the students to be able to excel and read music even when they are alone. My students will learn theory and be able to comprehend the language of music.
My teaching style is taking each student at their own pace. I try to keep the bar raised for them to continue to grow in their musical understanding but this is not an impossible goal. The students will get positive reinforcement during the lesson and we will use the feedback to improve our overall performance and understanding.
