ABOUT
Degrees / Training / Special Info:
Bachelors of Science, History
Overview:
I'm a very passionate musician, whose passion spills over into teaching. I've been playing instruments ever since I can remember, and music is something I can't picture my life without. I've played piano for over 20 years, and flute for over 15. After graduating high school I have played with the Iowa State University concert band and the Ames Community Band.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching music when I was in high school. I love being able to share my love for my instruments with others. While in high school I provided piano lessons to younger siblings of friends. Also in high school, I provided flute lessons to middle school and elementary band students. After graduating, I have provided lessons to children of friends. I look forward to being able to expand my reach to students I don't know, and spread my passion and enthusiasm onto the next generation of musicians.
METHODS USED
For beginners on the piano, I use Alfred's Basic Piano Books. Once a student has mastered the fundamentals, I like to encourage them to find a solo piece that they would like to learn. It could be classical, it could be contemporary, but I always would like them to choose a piece they are excited to learn how to play. For my flute students I like to use essential elements for beginners. For more advanced students, I will evaluate their level and choose which books on fundamentals are the right fit. Like with the piano, I will encourge my students, once they have a firm grasp on the fundamentals, to choose some solo pieces to work on that they are interested in learning.
LESSON STYLE
My goal is to have my students develop a passion for music and a love for their instrument. I am very patient, and very encouraging. I love giving positive feedback, and constructive criticism to make sure my students are doing their best, and having fun. For the younger students, I love giving out stickers as they master skills, like scales and rhythm exercises.  I want my students to WANT to practice and keep bettering themselves on their instrument.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
