MM, University of Texas at Austin, Opera Performance MBA, University of Phoenix, Business BA, Fort Lewis College, Vocal Performance
Teaching is my thing! Graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with my Masters Degree in Opera Performance. Since then I have taught privately and performed all over the world. I have performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, overseas in the EU and Brazil, and performed in the US premier of "Waiting for the Barbarians" here in Austin. I have enjoyed teaching students for over ten years now. There is something very special being able to see the "lights" turn on as a student discovers something new. Music is one of those things that can change and enrich lives; I feel very blessed to be able to pass on the gift of music.
I have been teaching continuously since 2002. I started by teaching undergraduate students at UT and continued in high schools and middle schools in the greater austin area. I encourage students to find the best fit for their interests and talents during lessons. Some students want to be able to sing better in church or school choirs, while others are interested in musical solos or college auditions. I will work with you to find out where you want to go together and we will make a plan to help you get there.
Voice instruction is every bit about personal growth as it is about learning the instrument. Being able to stand up in front of someone and express something is a vital skill in both professional and personal life. As such, I like to cater lessons very personally for each student. Some students will need to focus on technique, repertoire, and music theory, while others will need to work on his or her stage performance and musical interpretation. My goal in lessons is to help the student find their own voice. Most students start singing by mimicking celebrities. This can sometimes cause bad habbits and almost always limits the potential of the student's own voice. Will find your own voice together and with it - the sky is the limit :)
Voice progress is very personal to each student. Not only is every voice unique, but so are the student's goals. Singing needs to be fun and inspirational- or you won't keep up with it. The skills you will learn in my studio will help you get into college, find a job (with better interviewing skills), and express yourself. These are tools that you will take with you for the rest of your life.
