2012 - Los Angeles Music Academy - Dean's List
I've been a Drummer for 17 years and an Instructor for two.In 2012, I Graduated on the Dean's List from The Los Angeles Music Academy with a Degree In Performing Arts.Since i've been Home, I've performed with multiple bands(Mandarin,Dear Comrade)in long island, Brooklyn and NYC. It's been a blast and I love helping my students work toawards reaching a level of great performance.
While at school, I had the priviledge to study under some of the world's greatest instructors. They helped me not only as a player but as a student. They were great at breaking down any problems i came across by teaching me new strategies and approaches towards learning a foreign peice. It's their approaches and strategies as well as my own that I intend to share with my students. I Highly recommend to all of my students in taking part of any additional activities beyond private lessons such as Bands, School Orchestra, Recitals, Competitions, Nyssma, ect. In my experince, I have seen many of my students' confidence levels rise due to their musical achievements.
For beginners, I like to start my students off by Practicing out of Ted Reed's Syncopation and George Lawrence Stone's Stick Control. From these books, we will learn basic Sight reading, Rhythms, cordination and technique . For any of my students beyond the beginner's lever, I like to find out what their personal instrests are: A new Syle, Technique or a song that they would like to learn how to play. Their intrest is my mine and from there we can modify a routine.
My teaching style is very cut and dry.SLOW DOWN. Learning an istrument is an adventure so take your time and enjoy the journey.Remember it's not a race but a marathon. practicing daily and setting goals is highly recommended for a student to stay motivated and inspired. It's very rewarding when my students overcome an obstacle in their playing. The light Goes on, it clicks and they just get it. By allowing your body and mind to work at a pace where you can comprehend and correct your mistakes is key. Learning from your awareness definitely contributes in ones persnonal growth.
