I am a passionate teacher and performer that loves paying back the knowledge that I have had over the years. Professionally I have played in orchestras and every genre of music group trumpet, piano, guitar. Over 15 years I was a co Director of a music school that had thousands of students throughout those fifteen years that have gone on to professional and amateur music careers that have led them to play with professional groups and many other world renowned opportunities in travel and music development I am happy to pass that knowledge to the student who is looking for either professional or amateur venues of playing.
My teaching experience dates back to when I was 17 years old working at a music conservatory for kids from elementary to college students teaching guitar, piano and trumpet. I taught fundamental ear training, private lessons, musical theory, and brass band group lessons. Throughout my 20 plus years of teaching In these music conservatory’s I have developed a method of teaching for the student that is personally adapted for each student to make them better players professionally or for fun. My professional career reflects my passion for teaching in that I put my artistic method to the teaching.
For beginning students I typically start with sound development and articulation for the brass instruments starting with armband studies and schlosburg studies. For the intermediate students I work on Clark studies and intersperse getchel etudes for artistic development. Advanced students work on major recital works for brass that help their development for performance.
Guitar students learn chordal techniques with rythem patterns and a blend of classical playing finger picking for individual technique for fingers.
Piano students learn chordal structure and dynamic playing with technique and ear training involved.
It’s always great to see improvement in a student nothing is more rewarding than that. I strive to have a relaxed teaching environment and persona for the student which makes the work more productive on both levels so that the student feels comfortable in the learning environment. I also would recommend an amount of practice that is recommended for any student that is willing to put in the work for what ever they are trying to achieve be it professional or amateur playing level. In the long run I want the player to have fun at whatever they are willing to accomplish.
