Overview:
My wonderful mother started me in piano lessons when I was 5 years old. She never dreamed that I would go on to get a degree in music during those first years of lessons. I studied piano under Dr. John Cobb, who holds a Doctorate in Piano Performance from Julliard. I continued piano lessons for 13 years, but when I started college, I decided to major in trumpet. In 2014 I graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in Music from Brevard College. While working on my degree, I studied under Mr. Larry Black. Mr. Black played in the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for 30 years as professional Trumpet player. Both of my fantastic teachers have given me a lot of different ideas on how to practice more efficiently and effectively.
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching music in 2011. I was hired by Fletcher Academy, a private boarding academy, to teach concert band class for the high school and the elementary school as well as music classes for other area private grade schools. My student's quickly found out that I am in love with concert band! I have taught piano, trumpet, euphonium, french horn, trombone, and percussion lessons for 8 years. I encourage consistent practice and exploration of music that the student is interested in. My main focus during each lesson is to help each student have fun while playing their instrument. Learning music can be challenging and most students give up easily. I do my best to make sure they have the knowledge and skill to learn music for themselves and to share it with other.
METHODS USED
For beginning piano students, I started with the Piano Adventures Series unless they show a higher than usual natural ability. If I see that are above average, I will switch them to the Modern Course for Piano by John Thompson. Along with these method books, I introduce solo music from classical to modern music. If the student is learning the trumpet or another brass instrument, we begin with Standards of Excellence by Bruce Pearson. Once they have gotten through the first 2 books, we move on to the bigger names in brass methods, such as Clarke, Arbans, and Gordon. If a student is an adult, I will help them explore areas of their instrument that interest them as well as evaluate and adjust how they think about their instrument and daily practice.
LESSON STYLE
I have found that I am most fulfilled when my students reach the next level on their instrument. I am passionate about music and do my best to help my students learn to love music as much as I do. In order to do this, I pick appropriate music for each student, in styles they express interest in. I teach as quickly, or as slowly as needed to help each student progress at their own pace. I have also struggled as a student myself when learning certain skills. Since I have overcome those struggles, I know how to help my students tackle those issues. Encouragement and patience is a valued part of each of my lessons.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
