My name is Steven. I live in Easton. My main instrument is Trumpet but I also have experience teaching voice. I have played in groups of multiple styles. I was recently the conducting intern with the Reading Philharmonic Orchestra where a conducted and played trumpet with the group. I have participated in solo recitals on trumpet and voice. I graduated from Kutztown University in May 2018 with a B.S. in Music Education. I love working with kids and teens but I also have had experience working with adults and seniors.
EXPERIENCE
I have sang all of my life, which is important to being a musician. This helps to develop a musical ear. I have played trumpet since the 4th grade and I played throughout high school, college up to today. I sang and played in multiple ensembles throughout my schooling career. I've taught music lessons and ensembles during college as part of the process to get my teaching certificate for the state of Pennsylvania. My teaching certificate is in music education K-12.
METHODS USED
My method uses hard work and dedication, but also uses broad ideas to achieve your playing goals. In music what is the goal? The sound is the goal. The sound is everything. We will focus on this in lessons with critical thinking and listening to music. In order for this to work, we must also work on your person, or being a nice person. There is no judging in my studio. Everyone is here to learn and get better. We all had to start somewhere, but we all might not require the same steps to progress. In my studio, we are always learning. We will never achieve "it" but are always striving toward "it".
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is one that is not used much at beginning levels but for me, that's why it works. Teaching a young student how to play the instrument by sound and not by reading notes allows them to use their imagination while playing. When students figure out for themselves, that is when the best kind of learning happens. Of course, this method relies on the student investing in themselves and actually practicing for at least an 30-60 minutes a day for beginners. It is however totally worth it in the long run.
