Overview:
I've been teaching the guitar for over 25 years. I majored in classical guitar at the Hartt School of Music where I received my Bachelors degree. I teach most styles of music including rock, blues, metal, and classical. Some of my favorite artist are Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Beck, Eric Clapton and Randy Rhoads. I'm currently playing in the Doors tribute band Riders On The Storm and have played throughout the Northeast as well as in Europe. I also play classical guitar at weddings and professional events.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching the guitar for over 25 years. I currently have about 20 online students. I've recently moved to Tennessee from Connecticut so I am looking to add in person students as well. I've also been a working performer for over 25 years playing in various bands from tributes to The Doors, Fleetwood Mac, and Pink Floyd. Also, a country/classic rock acoustic duo. I've played in musical productions such as Hairspray and Adams Family Values. I've also been an experienced wedding and event guitarist as a solo classical and other styles guitarist.
METHODS USED
Personal experience, Mel Bay, Hal Leonard etc. I prefer to tailer my lessons to the students needs and desires. I like to instill the basics of guitar playing proper form and techniques, chords, scales, and the theory behind all that. However it's really more about the music that the student wants to learn. I teach guitar tablature and scale/chord diagrams. I also teach standard music notation for the beginner students especially the younger kids. Learning rock and country and blues is generally in tablature form with rhythm notation.
LESSON STYLE
I am a very patient and laid-back instructor. I enjoy a very loyal student base as evidenced by my Connecticut students to all stay with me in an online capacity when I moved to Tennessee. So I think I must be doing something right :) I like to teach students some of the songs that I think every guitarist should learn. The classics, the essentials. But I also ask them what they would like to learn. A lot of students ask me to learn songs that I may not know so I'll use Youtube and other sources to figure out and teach their favorite songs to them.
