2017 - Certification in Kundalini Yoga/Meditation Instruction 2010 - First Place IMEA All-State Composition Award 2010 - Andy Marchese Outstanding Music Student Award
Overview:
I am an innovative artist, teacher, and spiritual worker in Chicago. I play in several groups (Bassel & The Supernaturals, Gramps The Vamp, Abud: A Band, Sosha Wolf), and lead projects of my own (Here & Now, Presence Jazz, False Gods, Cold Seasons). My projects tour nationally, and have released several original albums. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, and have since been working as a professional musician. In addition to the private teaching and public performing I do, I also teach Kundalini Yoga, and read tarot cards for people.
EXPERIENCE
I have been a teacher my whole life. In high school, I tutored Shotokan Karate classes, taught swimming lessons, tutored younger students, and taught drum lessons. In college, I was a peer tutor for writing, and continued to teach drum lessons. Since graduating, I have regularly taught drum lessons, and now instruct Kundalini Yoga/Meditation as well. I have an intuitive sense of what any individual student needs and can always break things down in the most digestible way possible, and can teach anybody how to do anything. Ultimately, my goal is to bring out students' self-confidence to the utmost, and have them fearlessly shining their light and sharing their song/beat with the world. I have worked for years on my voice, and passionately expressing myself, and am honored to have opportunities to help others unlock their highest potentials.
METHODS USED
For every instrument I teach, I always focus on tone primarily. To have whatever instrument the student is learning, be it drumset, piano, or voice, it is of utmost importance to me to have them re-sounding the whole body of the instrument with confidence, and with passion. When we start from this place, I then work on rudiments/scales, and aim to endow students with basic vocabulary, so that they may become fluent on their instruments. I see music as a language, and to get fluent in the language is the ultimate goal.
LESSON STYLE
Passion for music and fluency with the language of music are my ultimate goals. When I can get students passionately and freely expressing themselves, without hesitations, inhibitions, or apologies, I feel I have liberated the master artist that dormant within each of us. Everyone has such a powerful, and beautiful voice within: to be able to fearlessly communicate it through the power of music is my goal for all students. While I have my goals, I also respect those of the students. If they want to become proficient readers of sheet music, I will absolutely work with students on sight-reading, and working through challenging pieces. Serving the student to the utmost is of grave importance to me.
