I have been teaching since 1980. I am originally from North Carolina and moved to Colorado in the 80s. I am a member of National Music Teachers Association, Colorado State Music Teachers Association and Foothills Music Teachers Association. I have taught both at the private and public school levels and teach students beginning at age 5 through adult level. I have sung with Charlotte Opera, Jacksonville Opera and the Lakewood Chorale as soprano soloist. I have performed with The Lost Colony in NC
I started singing professionally at age 15. Through the years I have taught both private voice and piano lessons. I have also taught at Elbert County Charter School grades kindergarten through the 8th grade in general music education. I have served as the minister of music at St Paul's Methodist Church in Burlington NC, Aurora First Presbyterian Church in Aurora Colorado and at Providence Presbyterian in Parker Colorado. I am currently serving as the praise team music assistant for Our Savior's Church in Lakewood Colorado
In my piano classes I use the Bastien piano method beginning at the primer level for the children. If they have had previous lessons, I am more than willing to continue with their current method. For adult piano students I use the Older Beginner Piano Course by Bastien. Again, if they wish to continue with previously studied materials, I am more than happy to comply with that. For voice students, the music is geared to the individual. I have quite an array of music at my disposal and draw from my library.
Lessons are geared to the individual student. I try to provide a warm and friendly atmosphere while providing a professional experience for the students. Theory is emphasized as well as technique for both the piano and voice student. Most voice students will get a basic knowledge of music reading skills while piano students tend to have a bit more in depth studies. I also use fun worksheets to help with the learning of theory which are based upon the season that we are currently in. I try to make lessons as fun as possible while still working hard.
