New England Conservatory (BM)-piano performance
san Fran Francisco Conservatory (MM)-piano performance
I’m a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students. My performance and educational background is strong. In 2004, I graduated from New England Conservatory with a Bachelors of Music in Piano Performance. And also in 2006, I graduates from San Francisco Conservatory with a Masters of Music in Piano Performance. I had performed with a repertoire that stretches from Bach to Liszt to the music of today. I am very enthusiastic about meeting new students who can share my love of music.
My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 18 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students until now. As a private piano instructor for the last 18 years I have gained valuable insight into the ways in which music can be taught to enrich the lives of people. I am confident teaching at all skill levels, from beginners to advanced. I try to approach student’s needs individually. I also try to help them with their musicianship, so that they can better communicate with their audiences in performance. Above all, I hope to install in the a lifelong joy in learning and expressing music.
For beginning students who are children, I typically Start with Piano Adventures by Nancy and Randall Faber. Once student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for the recital performance. For adults, if student is beginner, I usually start with Alfred’s Adult Beginner book. If adult student already learned basic and start lessons again, I try to find out what the student is interested in. I try to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
I believe that motivating and inspiring students requires a different approach. But nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music. Therefore, it’s important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn and practice more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and need.
Sunji, is professional, knowledgeable and both my girls really enjoy her lessons.
