Ms. L.’s fresh approach to vocal pedagogy begins with the traditional vocal methods of the Italian School of Bel Canto Singing - which translates to beautiful and healthy singing ... and then combines it with a new and modern vocal pedagogical approach which combines a singers own self - their heart, mind, and body and how all these things combined then lead to an emotional connection to music and themselves as artists and humans. Each singer has their own unique instrument - we need to help them find their own voice which is different than any other person’s on this planet. She uses scientific understanding of vocal function - talking about proper body alignment, breathing technique, diction, tongue and jaw tension, and the importance of vocal health. The vocal folds are one of the most delicate sets of muscles in our bodies. She uses the science of singing and coordinate it the heart, mind, and body - the singers body, their instrument.
When meeting a new student, I try to make the student comfortable and at ease. Singing is such a personal thing, so feeling safe is important. I begin by asking about a students goals and getting to know them. I discuss breathing, technique and their musical backgroud so I can figure out how to best help that student. We are all at different stages of our musical journeys - no two students are the same. I hope students build confidence and a passion for music for the rest of their life's. I also want students to enjoy and learn.
