Bachelor of Arts - Music, Florida State University, Commercial Music/Music Production
Hello! My name is Tae, a recent graduate of the Florida State University, known for our phenomenal college of music programs and I am excited and enthusiastic to share my passion for music with future students whom have either just started their instrument, have currently been playing at an intermediate level, or just want a couple of lessons to get a second opinion on their musicianship. I have been playing saxophone for the past 11 years of my life and the past 4 years at the collegiate level. I am the proud owner of a Selmer Series II!
I've played in concert bands, numerous wind ensembles and solo recitals, performed with the FSU Marching Chiefs, and have had the privilege to receive the tutelage under the fine Patrick Meighan and Thomas Giles. My award and achievements may not go far (mainly because my degree was in Audio Production and Music Business) but I am more than aware of the diligence and finesse it takes to perfect and hone this craft. As a music student I was required to go through 4 semesters of intense private instruction and examinations and loved every minute of it.
For my students that would like to set up lessons long-term, I gauge their current playing levels through excerpts and materials we agree on, on the first lesson that they shall have prepared on our our follow-up and then from there, I will be assigning material to focus on the areas that need work and what to reform. During that first lesson we will be discussing goals, expectations, and performances for the calendar year. For my students who are just beginning to play, we will be working on the fundamentals, such as appropriate embouchure and technique, as well as the appropriate equipment and materials. For my students who are interested in just getting feedback on progress, just bring your instrument, music, an open mind, and check your ego at the door. :)
Yes, I will be focusing on fundamentals, skill, and fluidity but if there is anything that I prioritize above all else is art. Anyone can learn to play scales and technically difficult pieces but cultivating creativity and musicianship is the key to developing an understanding of phrasing, purpose, and musicianship. I'm not going to be just sitting around telling my student what to do and how to do it. I want my students to think for themselves and delight that the work they produce is their own. Of course, I will be there to set goals and give suggestions but I'm not going to be thinking for my students, because if there is one thing my teachers have taught ME is to invest in potential not talent.
