Overview:
Hello and Welcome to my Musika Presence! Having been both an avid student and a teacher over the majority of my life, I understand what it is to learn from both perspectives. I have developed the skill and patience to really listen and observe individual aspiring musicians' capabilities, way of gathering information and processing it. I take students from where they are at a particular point in time, toward where they want to be. I love and respect many different genres of music and have experience playing as a soloist, a chamber musician and in orchestras. As a vocalist, I have sung professionally and semi professionally in a variety of venues both solo and in ensemble.
EXPERIENCE
Since I was 10 I had the experience of teaching or coaching children younger than I, and asked to explain what I was learning to adults other than my teachers, thus found ways of articulating musical concepts into words and/or being able to demonstrate concepts. My students have ranged in age from 4 to 56 years of age, and I have learned how to work with each age's particular needs. I have developed a LIIT program to Classical Music to help an aging population stay healthy and fit while learning about and enjoying the beauty, power, and rhythm of famous and not so famous Classical Music pieces! CT's ARC program graduate Aug 2002 CT Board of Education CT's Alternate Route to Teacher Certification-- Condensed course in teaching music in public school: this included learning the basics of every band instrument.
METHODS USED
I use a variety of different pedagogical approaches from Music for the Classroom - Kodaly and Orff methodology, to series like Hal Leonard, the Music Tree (Frances Clark), Piano Adventures (Randall and Nancy Faber), John Thompson and Alfred's Piano Basics. In Voice, my approach is ecclectic but effective, drawing from traditional Classical approaches & vocal building techniques to some of the latest ideas and discoveries on developing a beauty of sound and a solid foundation in the control of the breath. I like to combine the old with the new.
LESSON STYLE
From my experiences teaching in classroom settings, I have come to realize the importance of setting short and longer term learning goals for my students and adjusting these goals together with them as we work towards reaching these objectives. Sometimes the goals are very specific, like mastering a particular concept, or practicing towards a specific audition, and some, more general, like developing certain techniques which then need to be further explored and practiced by the student. I aim to foster a deep, multi-level appreciation of the art and craft of making music regardless of the result: I want to help the student find joy in the process and the act of simply engaging in music making, learning to play, listen, then develop his or her critical faculties as to what to listen for, and how to adjust to produce the desired result.

Tamari teaches yoga like a musician. She brings extraordinary music to exercise to. She is patient with students “ales and wails”. If you come to class all the time she gets to know what you are capable of, thereby helps to stretch you further in your yoga practice. She is patient. She is also patient with newbies. Nature is patient, yet all is accomplished, and that’s kind of what her attitude is.

It has been my pleasure to make the acquaintance of Ms. Tamari W. and I would highly recommend her for piano (and/or)voice lessons for anyone from beginner to intermediate to advanced. I have also had the good fortune of seeing Ms. Tamari perform in concert which further displayed her talents. Her knowledge of music and critiques and pinpoint commentary get right to the heart of the matter where the student needs to improve and grow. She is very patient and experienced with students of all levels and makes the process fun as well as rewarding.

Hi Everyone, I'd like to tell all about what a wonderful experience I'm having with Tamari as my piano teacher. First about me. I'm a 70 year old male with virtually no hands-on music experience or knowledge (other than listening). My parents forced me to take piano music lessons 60+ years ago which I totally resisted. Playing piano was a sissy thing and after a few months they gave up. For the past 50 years I regretted my youthful error. So when I had the chance to take a piano/keyboard class from Tamari, through OLLI at Uconn I jumped at the chance.Tamari started the first class totally prepared. Not only did she have startup handouts geared to beginner level students. She also came with extension cords and power outlet strips so all could set up comfortably. Right away we (9) were playing notes and learning. Tamari gave us terrific learning tips (beyond Every Good Boy Does Fine) to make grasping lessons much easier. Sadly, the Virus hit, and self-isolation became the norm. So Tamari set up her classes through the ZOOM video conferencing software. Wonderfully, a fun learning experience. One example from yesterday. Tamari helped me learn that just playing the notes , G A G C B by pecking at the keys isn?t music. There?s a certain rhythm needed to make the sound correct and enjoyable. And after, patiently, staying with me, turn after turn, I got it right. Bravo to her and me. Let me wrap this up by saying, I couldn't be happier or more satisfied with Tamari as my Piano teacher.

I have known Tamari professionally for fifteen years. She is an excellent music teacher for piano and voice. Her expertise is noticeable as she patiently meets her student at his/her level and guides that student to the next step. The process is perfect for any student, even if developmentally challenged and for any age. I highly recommend Tamari.

I have had the pleasure of being in a few classes taught by Tamari. The Corona virus shortened the classes, but the ones I had at Olli (Uconn Waterbury) were a lot of fun, taught with great amount of energy, and were taught with a lot of imagination. Tamari also took the time to spend with each student as needed. She was not only teaching keyboard finger placement, but was right away stressing the importance of timing in order to play with others. As a voice teacher, she also stressed the importance of listening not just playing. My favorite part. The only regret I have is not being able have more classes at Olli with her, before the virus took hold. Anyone thinking of taking classes with her will be rewarded big time with a great instructor.

I have had a wonderful experience studying piano with Tamari. She is an enthusiastic teacher making the lesson not only rewarding but also joyful. We had to go virtual because of Covid-19 and Tamari spent a lot of time getting all of us familiarized with virtual lessons. She is very dedicated, patient, caring, has a warm personality and she really enjoys teaching.

Tamari is a highly qualified, skilled, experienced piano, voice and guitar teacher who is very accomplished in teaching students of all ages. As a colleague of hers for about 10 years, I can testify to her musicianship, enthusiasm, organization, and ability to tailor appropriate lessons to each student's skill level. She has the ability to reach beyond basic note reading and motivate her students to want to improve for the joy of music. This is every teacher's goal, and she does it beautifully. She teaches them how to listen so they can grow their own musical appreciation and abilities, and do so in a comfortable, caring way. She is a giving, creative, dedicated teacher and I highly recommend her.

She is absolutely fantastic. Devoted to her students acquiring not only the skills but the love of music and the deeper understanding of the structure of music. The fact that she can work with a wide range of ages is due to her patience and professionalism And I highly recommend her. The musical knowledge that she gave me will last a lifetime
