1988-1990 - Performed Student recitals at the Third Street Music School
1998 - Performed at Carnegie Hall with the New York Youth Symphony
Overview:
I was born and raised in New York City. All my life I have been passionate about the arts and music is certainly one of my greatest passions. I started studying classical violin at the age of 6 at the Third Street Music school in New York. (studied under the Suzuki method). Along my travels as a student I have also attended music camps such as Kinhaven and Interlochen and was a member of the New York Youth Symphony during my senior year in high school. Currently I make a living as a musician. I perform gigs around town as a soloist playing various genres - classical to pop.
I teach out of my home studio (currently setting up the studio and can have my first student mid October, 2016)
EXPERIENCE
I have taught violin since the year 2011. My students have primarily been between the ages of 10-16 with the exception of one student being in her 40's. I have taught beginners to advanced beginners, and most of my students have to this point hired me to train for a particular upcoming audition. During the years of teaching, I have found that I truly enjoy watching students obtain the gift of being able to play music. It is a wondeful craft to be in possession of and I only wish to meet more prospective talents.
METHODS USED
My methods as a teacher begin primarily with emphasis on fundamentals, i.e Bow hand position, violin position. I emphasize the need to practice on a consistent basis. As in any walk of life, there will be little to no improvement unless you do so. I also believe in treating each student differently, however, as there are some who simply want to have fun and learn something new. I like to set goals and time markers so as to make sure students are progressing in a healthy manner. As for any particular books (methods), I make that decision upon meeting the student and getting to know their abilities, goals, etc.
LESSON STYLE
From my own experience both as a student and as a teacher, teaching anything in life is most effectively done with consistency and practice. Learning violin is no exception to that fundamental truth. As a teacher, I emphasize consistent practicing. I don't, however, believe in being too hard on students. It is very important that there is a love for what you do.
I will offer two types of curriculum to my students. One curriculum will be using the Suzuki method, where Classical music and technique will be at the core of what we do. The second curriculum will be be centered on more contemporary music; Jazz, Pop, etc. In this curriculum, we will study and learn the different keys and chords, improvisation, etc.
In both paths, my students will have the opportunity to perform on an annual basis in front of other students and parents.
