Bachelor Degree: Agnes Scott College
I am a passionate and encouraging instructor who loves working with students of all ages and playing levels. I graduated from Agnes Scott College in 2022 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Violin Performance. I’ve participated in a number of ensembles including the Agnes Scott Community Orchestra and multiple chamber ensembles. Playing violin has led me to some of the best experiences of my life, I’ve had the opportunity to perform in different states, meet other musicians and see a lot of great performances.
My teaching experience began in my late high school days in 2018. After graduating college, I was excited for the opportunity to work with more students and give them my undivided attention. I currently teach students of all ages, and different playing levels. I love that I can teach music to a diverse collective of students and that each student has their own strengths. I love to emphasize those strengths to encourage them when playing the violin can feel difficult. I’ve been playing the violin for 15 years and teaching for 5 years and I look forward to every opportunity to teach a new student.
For all beginner students I like to start with Essential Elements 2000 for violin. I find it is a great way to introduce reading music notation for students who haven’t learned yet. Once the student has a good grasp on reading music and playing in upright position, I like to introduce introductory solo repertoire with Suzuki Violin School. I find this is a great way to introduce violin techniques like tone development along with performance elements. I tailor the music lessons to each student and love to incorporate musical games and activities for younger children to keep them engaged.
Watching students learn and progress brings me so much joy. For younger students who are energetic, I love to incorporate games and activities to keep them engaged while we continue to learn important aspects on the violin. Encouragement and setting a steady pace is key for all ages and levels. Acknowledging big and small accomplishments keeps the students motivated and proud of their progress. I like to ask each student what their musical interests and goals are so that I can tailor the lesson to their needs.
