I'm a 22-year-old music lover! I have played guitar since I was 10 years old and have taught and played with several people throughout the world. I've performed in college classes, community events, and church devotionals. I have taught people from age 8 up to 40 and absolutely love it! Music helps me express myself and teaching others how to do the same is my greatest passion! Not only do I love teaching people, but I love getting to know them as well. Learning and exploring music is one of the best ways to bond with new friends!
The first time I taught I was about 15-years-old and it ignited a passion for sharing my musical experiences with others! I started teaching an 8-year-old and from there had the opportunity to teach people from all over the world! I've taught people from places like Tonga, Ghana, England, Wales, and China. My students have not only become better at guitar but had a great time while doing it! I've found it works best to teach the foundational skills using the students' favorite genre of music. It's my job to help students obtain the skills they want and more!
My methods, of course, depend on the student but I usually start using the same materials that I started with. That combined with other curricula such as Rock School and others, I am able to identify which path will be best for the student. Teaching the student one of their favorite songs towards the beginning always helps the student get the fire and passion they need to become a guitar master. For more advanced students, I tend to work on a new genre of guitar playing that the student wants to master to help broaden their guitar abilities.
The most effective teacher is a friend. As a friend, I can use the most effective teaching techniques to help them progress. Every student is different in their pace, goals, and passions. I love learning my student's musical dreams and fighting with them to accomplish them! Setting realistic goals to both encourage and challenge a student is a core to my teaching. Without those goals, learning to play an instrument remains an overwhelming task! I will break down my student's dream into goals, and then into daily practices and in no time my student will be a professional guitar player!
