2018- American Protégé International Concerto Competition Honorable Mention Winner
2016-2019- Arts and Letters FAU Scholarship
I was born in Raleigh, NC and grew up in Central Florida. I have always loved reading, spending time outdoors, and learning new music. During my time at Florida Atlantic University I was able to attend the Cremona International Music Festival in Cremona, Italy for three weeks. The program was enriching for me because I had private lessons, chamber music lessons and piano duet lessons as well as multiple performance opportunities. I also was an honorable mention winner of the 2018 American Protégé Competiion and was able to perform at Carnegie Hall in June 2018. After I received my Bachelor's degree in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Florida Atlantic University, I relocated to the beautiful mountain town of Maggie Valley, NC. Now, I am dedicated to spreading my knowledge and skills as a pianist.
What I have enjoyed about learning the piano is discovering its history along with its composers. When you take piano lessons from me, I will incorporate history behind the pieces you study. Being well-rounded in music is very rewarding. From Beethoven to Chopin, I offer knowledge behind the notes. The piano is an instrument of passion, and I show this passion by constantly learning and teaching others new musical pieces. I pride myself in the fact that despite having over 15 years of experience under my belt, I am still learning. I push my students to grow both musically and artistically. I teach students of any learning style and experience level in all of Western North Carolina. I travel and teach piano from the comfort of my students' homes, and I accommodate them in any way that I can.
For beginning students that are children, I like to use Faber's Piano Adventures or Music for Little Mozarts series depending on age. Later on I will advance them to simple classical solo pieces as well as any modern pieces they are interested in learning. For adults, I accommodate their lessons based on their goals. If they are unsure I will start with the Alfred's Basic Adult All- In- One Piano book and go from there. If there goal is a specific piece then I will section out the easier parts first for them to play and then teach them the entire piece when they advance further.
I always strive to motivate my students based on their unique goals. I usually require a weekly practice sheet. The practice sheet has no specific amount of time required but simply acknowledgment that there was some practice on each day that is checked by the student. If they practice a certain amount each month then they will get a prize unique to the student, like a toy or candy of sorts. For adults, I try to inspire them to set small goals each week in order to get to the bigger picture of what they want out of lessons. My man goal is to allow my students to enjoy their lessons and practice time and to be well rounded in music.
