My personally philosophy is music is a special gift that must be cultivated through passion and efficient practice. Throughout the years, I have had the privilege of studying with some of the best violinists. I have taken lessons and masterclasses with Rocky Lee, violinist and artistic Director of South Coast Symphony Orchestra (SCYSO), Alexander Treger, former Concertmaster of LA Philharmonic Orchestra, Tamara Chernayk, an LA Philharmonic violinist, Randall Goosby, a rising concert violinist, and Gabriel Lefkowitz, Concertmaster of the Louisville Orchestra. Additionally, I have received my BA in Violin Performance at Pepperdine University, with a full music scholarship. Performing all over the world has been one of the greater experiences as a musician. I have had opportunity to perform at sold out venues in England, Wales, Ireland, France, Germany, and Greece. I also had performed in world-class concert halls, such as Disney Concert Hall, Carnegie Hall, and René and Henry Segerstrom Hall. During the summer, I have had the wonderful opportunity of attending unique programs - Heidelberg Music Institute through Pepperdine University and The Emerald Coast Chamber Music Festival (ECCMF), and National Repertory Orchestra (NRO). When I am not teaching, I enjoys spending time with my family and friends, exploring new music, and trying new food items.
Born and raised in Southern California, I began playing the violin at the age of nine and I have not looked back ever since! Currently, I have 16 years of playing experience and 7 years of teaching experience. Teaching private students have been such an unexpected joy of my music career. To see a student progress while enjoying their music journey is a teacher’s main task. More importantly, establishing a solid practice schedule is pivot in developing one’s musical ability. In my studio, I highly encourage my students to practice daily in order to improve. I have also found that joining both the public school’s music program and a youth orchestra is crucial in motivating a student to practice. Additionally, finding opportunities like performing in a recital or string ensemble help students create goals and staying on track.
My method varies from student to student - It really depends on the student’s level. For a beginner student, I would focus giving the basic music foundation for violin: posture and bow hold, solid intonation and tone, and good sense of rhythm. More importantly, I teach the student to be aware of how to create a beautiful sound versus a bad sound. Furthermore, I use Hirmaly Violin Scale book for technique and Suzuki Book for the music pieces for beginner students. Once the student has a clear understanding of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire and etudes. To make the lesson more engaging, I am flexible in regard to choosing music pieces that a student may want to learn or not. I usually ask a student if they have a piece they would like to learn. If yes, then I will teach that piece for my student. If not, then I can find pieces to get the student interested in learning.
As a teacher, my main task is to instill a love for music while a student progresses on their musical journey. I am a firm believer on you get what you give in this process. I believe it’s essential in establishing a daily routine of practicing slowly and efficiently. I will give my students the tools to be successful and thrive. That being said, as a teacher I am energic and direct; I take interest in developing a healthy working relationship with my students as a way of fostering music growth.
