I am very passionate about music. I love teaching students, composing, conducting, and more. In May of 2017, I graduate from Long Island University with a Master of Arts in Music Composition and Music Theory. During my studies at Long Island University, a solo violin work I composed was performed at the Moscow State Conservatory by Anastasia Vedyakova. Also, two piano works I composed during my time at Long Island University were performed by Professor David Holzman. After graduating, I moved to Southern California with the prospects of teaching and seeking other opportunities in music. I began teaching students in high school when there was a need that a student in the band needed some instruction. My second stint at teaching came in 2009 to 2012 when I taught Middle School and High school students from complete beginners to experienced players. My approach to teaching music is synthesis of all the teachers methodologies I have encountered as well as pedagogy courses I have encountered in my university career. Also, my schedule is listed, but if you need a schedule accommodation, please let me know. I will do my best to work with you. These are the times I am listing for now until my orchestral engagement begins.
My teaching experience extends back to my high school days when I would teach students enrolled in our band new instruments. I also taught for three years from 2009 to 2012 in private studio. I encourage students to practice the suggested amount of time that I give to them each day. I also wish for students to listen to performances of their instruments to learn the capabilities of their instrument as well as the sound of refined playing. I encourage learning about the history and the literature of the instrument as this will help with the performance and interpretation of music. I also encourage the learning of theory, depending on the instrument, it can be very crucial. While this may sound like a lot, I make it so that all of this learning is not overwhelming. Lessons should be fun, informative, and should interest the student in pursuing musical studies.
The methods that I use will be outlined to you before the first lesson. Beginning students learn rudiments and work into repertoire of their own interest as time moves along. Intermediate students and beyond learn should indicate any interests they have musically to have a supplement to lesson materials. I encourage my students to participate in Music Teacher National Association competitions, festivals, and other events when appropriate. Other competitions, festivals, and performance opportunities can be suggested for participation when appropriate.
My teaching style is very simple. Each student moves along at their own pace and learns in their own style. I will try to mold my teaching to the learning styles of the student as much as possible. I believe every concept learned in lessons should be manageable and allowing for steady advancement towards attainable, realistic goals incrementally lesson to lesson. I will provide feedback that encourages steady progress and that builds the esteem of the student musician. My studio is a learning space of positiveness and growth for students to excel not only musically, but in all areas of life.
