I have studied trumpet since the age of 7. My first influence was Herb Alpert in 1966. I played in Junior High, High School and in college bands and orchestras.
I have been teaching trumpet since 1992. I began my private studio in Lubbock, Texas while I was attending Texas Tech University. I performed in the Tech band, as well as in a brass quintet made up of myself and local brass musicians from the Lubbock area. I performed many weddings and other functions while in Lubbock. I have been in the DFW are since 2003 and restarted my teaching in 2005 after a two year rest. I taught at a local school district in Dallas and throughout my teaching years, I had great success by placing students in All Region bands and orchestras. And a great success by having my studnets score division one ratings in the UIL solo and esnemble contests. I am currently the Head "Royal Trumpeter" at Medieval Times, Dallas Castle. I perform most nights and when the Castle is open. I have been at the Dallas Castle since 2010.
I have had many years of teaching experience both in public schools and private schools. My goal for each student is to get them to produce the best sound they can. This can and will be accomplished with practice on the students part.
As with all students, I like tooassess the level of experience before setting a particular method. Once I teach proper warm up habits, I start by working on scales and range development. Once a basic knowledge of scales and warm up habits are established, I search the student to see what her/his interests are in music styles. Once that is accomplished...we can move on the bigger and better things.
I highly encourage daily practice on each student and during each lesson, we follow a set path of warm up, scale studies, sigh reading and learning new solos from time to time.
