I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2015 and 2017, I graduated from Peter King College of Music and Muson School of Music with Associate degrees in Saxophone and Piano Performance. I am current in my final semester for grad studies in Jazz and Contemporary Music at Longy School of Music, Cambridge MA. Performing across the globe and styles has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to play with different artists both in Nigeria and Boston MA.
As an EDUCATOR, I have had the opportunity to teach talented and diverse students from ages 4 to 89 and my aim has always been to support my students in finding their voices across different genres of music and helping them become more confident, creative, unique, and comfortable with any style of music they love to play. In my studio, I focus on creating study materials with repertoires across genres, with focus on cultural identity (that is unique) to each student’s background and culture. I make the study materials cut across other areas of musicianship like sight-reading (by notating their choice of songs), technical etudes/studies to improve physical fitness such as accuracy, tone quality, articulation on the instrument, harmony, and history. Asides teaching musical instruments, my students and I discuss artistic goals and music business especially for those who would like to make a living as full-time musicians. I also get them to play recitals because I believe it helps them gain more confidence to face not just the audience but also life beyond music. Playing recitals also make them more responsible in keeping details about the music. Simultaneously, they have fun while selecting a repertoire of their choice.
For beginning students on piano, I typically start with Piano Adventures. For beginning students on saxophone, I typically start with fundamentals like Sound production with long tones, embouchure exercises, A Tune A Day by C. Paul Herfurth. Once the student as progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire across several genre of music as well appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at their own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. I also do jam sessions in my class where my student and I jam together with no restrictive music boundaries.
