Overview:
I am a passionate musician that would love to teach others. I am currently a student at Five Towns College in NY studying composition although I have 15+ years experience with flute and around 10 years with saxophone as well. My primary instrument is flute, and I can play soprano/alto/tenor/baritone sax, however, I primarily play tenor and baritone the most. I play many more instruments including piccolo, piano, some clarinet and trumpet, guitar, bass guitar, harmonica and more. Honestly, if you name it, I have some experience in playing it. I have competed in different states with both the wind ensemble and jazz band in high school and have held workshops with my college jazz orchestra mentoring saxophone students. I am a composer so I can not only teach how to play an instrument but also how to compose for the instrument and in general. I compose within many genres, from classical to ambient to jazz and hip hop as well as electronic styles. I have also performed many styles of music including classical, baroque, contemporary, latin and jazz and would love to pass on my knowledge to others! My studio is in my home and works as both a lesson studio and a recording studio, so we can even record the progress of my students so that they can hear themselves and where they can improve. They can also enjoy hearing said improvements for themselves which help encourage students and gives them a feeling of accomplishment which is important!
EXPERIENCE
My experience in teaching is still growing. I have previously taught freelance back in 2010 assisting high school students prep for NYSSMA. I have taught toddlers as well as adults since then off and on but am looking to start to teach more consistently and regularly. I also have experience with children and young adults with special needs. I encourage a consistent schedule and regular practice but also like to make sure my student enjoys the music and learns to appreciate the instrument and what they are playing. Effectiveness is key when practicing so I have always encouraged multiple practice sessions a day but smaller amounts of time (15-20 minutes) so that you can really improve and see changes in your playing and musicality. This also helps keep the student from becoming frustrated and developing a negative relationship with the piece, practicing, or music in general. I would like to assist and encourage my students to enter contests, recitals, and NYSSMA as well as compose their own material so they can stay motivated and feel accomplished while challenging themselves. Teaching for me is a blessing because I get to help create new musicians and light a fire and passion in them. I learn from my students, they learn from me and together we grow as individuals and musicians.
METHODS USED
For beginners who are children I will start with the fundamentals of the instrument (flute or sax) and then from there will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their level. With adults I like to find out what styles of music they are interested in and instruct them with that in mind to keep the lessons fun and enjoyable while still educational. I will assign exercises and also incorporate some basic music theory and composition tips to further my student's music education and lead to a more well rounded knowledgeable musician.
LESSON STYLE
I love helping others develop a passion for music! Because of this, I find it highly important to work with each student at their own pace applying techniques that fit their learning style. I combine a variety of techniques and ideas that help keep the lesson engaging and fun for students of all levels and ages. Students can also bring in music they are working on outside of our lessons (band music, original compositions or music they just want to learn) and I can help them improve on the piece. When working on a solo piece we will look at it as a whole, go over any terms or passages that the student has questions about and then work in sections as well as addressing the entire piece and the musicality of how to approach and play the piece. My goal is to not only help my students learn their instrument but also to help them to learn about and appreciate many aspects of music wich is one of the greatest joys of teaching.

Tess is super cool! She is not only good at teaching and articulating things in a way I can understand, but teaches things that inspire me to want to work on music more. She teaches music techniques that are always very useful, even when I'm just shooting the breeze and playing mindlessly while I'm practicing. A very good teacher indeed.

I met Tess through my college and I must say, her expertise in piano and in composing in general really helped me out! With her lessons, I was able to pass my courses with a lot more ease and I learned a lot in the process. She saw through my frustrations as a musician and re-ignited my love for the craft. I rate 10 out of 10 would definitely have her teach me again!

I am a saxophonist that wanted to learn flute and I met Tess through my college. The home studio is such a comfortable setting and she explains technique so well! I always struggled with my embouchure but Tess(Teresa) has improved it greatly with her teaching techniques and we both picked music appropriate for my playing level that I could also enjoy. She taught me how to approach breathing and phrases in a more musical manner and I look forward to continuing to learn from her in the future.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
