I love to teach students the fundamentals of singing, including breathing, posture, and mouth position. These fundamentals stand students in good stead to sing whatever style they choose for the rest of their lives. I have a passion for classical music, including art song, oratorio, and opera. I completed my Master of Arts degree in Voice Performance in 2000. I have performed as a Soprano soloist across the United States in places as diverse as Virginia, Michigan, and Texas.
I began teaching 17 years ago while completing my Master of Arts degree in Voice Performance. I have passion for teaching students of all ages the fundamentals of singing. These include breathing, posture, and mouth position. These fundamentals stand students in good stead to sing whatever style they choose for the rest of their lives. Students gain skill in singing with regular practice, which is strongly encouraged in my home studio. I assist students with preparing to audition for college music programs and scholarships.
In voice lessons, skills must be broken down into component parts so that students achieve success. I use vocal exercises as etudes to teach specific content such as accessing ones entire vocal range. My students are given simultaneous praise and feedback to help acheive desired skills. A recent student whose range has been increasing has reported regularly that she feels accomplished following her lessons.
I am passionate about teaching students to sing. Breaking skills down into component parts is essential so that each student feels their own independent success in each lesson. My teaching style gives students a sense of accomplishment and also encourages them to work to the best of their ability. This success is balanced with constructive feedback that motivates students for greater accomplishments.
