Overview:

Hello! I am a highly motivated private instructor that loves to share my passion of music to all. I graduated from Emporia State University in May 2023 with my Master of Music degree in Flute Performance. During my time at ESU I was in the marching band (piccolo/trumpet), Hornet Revue (piccolo), Jazz Ensemble (piano), Wind Ensemble (principal flute/piccolo), symphony orchestra (principal flute), fall musicals, and flute choir. Being in these different ensembles, I was able to learn a wide variety of musical genres, from blues to pop to classical and all in between. As of late May 2023, I am the Social Media Assistant for the Kansas Flute Society.

EXPERIENCE

My teaching experience goes back to when I was a sophomore in high school and I started to teach piano lessons after school to kids that ranged from the age of 5-13. In these lessons we would cover fundamentals, warm-ups, theory, classic literature, etudes, and any fun songs that they wanted! I always encouraged my students to practice and if they wanted to learn a video game song or pop chart we would focus on that. My main goal was to spread how music could make a difference in someone's life and for my students to have fun while learning! For flute lessons, I started teaching lessons while in my undergraduate degree in college and have loved every second of it!

METHODS USED

For my methods, it depends on the age of the student and what their ability level is. For a young student, typically children, I would have to cover the fundamentals of music while applying it to piano or flute to help them learn the notes, clefs, time signatures, key signatures, etc. For my lesson plans, it changes from student to student as each student is different and has different needs they need to focus on to better their musical experience. For all of my students, I encourage them to also play what they would like to play while also playing some known literature of the instrument and method books.

LESSON STYLE

My main priority while teaching is to encourage and uplift my students. I never want to tear any of them down. To me, nothing is more rewarding than seeing your students face light up when they nail what they have been practicing. Each student will progress at their own pace and that is perfectly okay. I want each student to set a goal and we will work hard until that goal is accomplished. I think with having set goals and tracking the progress shows the improvement over time which is important to know that the student is improving and can be an uplifting experience.
