BA, Kutztown University, Commercial Music with minors in Jazz, Music History, and Audio Engineering
Overview:
I am a recent graduate from Kutztown University where I studied Commercial Music with minors in Jazz, Music History and Audio Engineering. I am a saxophone player primarily, and have experience playing and teaching all 4 major saxophones. I also have studied and taught flute and clarinet for over 4 years now. I have extensive performance experience from marching band to musical pit orchestras to pop bands at amusement parks. I specialize in classical, jazz and can teach very beginners to more advanced students.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching lessons privately in high school, about 6 years ago, and throughout college consistently. I have taught brand new musicians, who have never opened their instrument case, all the way through high school levels. I believe in starting the young musicians right with a good sound. Together we will work on basic technique on each instrument, which will then assist them in learning music for band, their school ensembles or just personal knowledge and growth. We will move at a pace that is appropriate for each student so they can get the most out of their private lessons!
METHODS USED
If following a school band's curriculum we can work on whatever book they require. To make lessons more personal we will move at the pace of the student, however most of the time their band director will have weekly playing assignments, It will be my goal to make sure each students is fully prepared for the assignment and for the more ambitious students, to go beyond. The student can come in with band music or we can find a music interest and strive towards improving while working on something they enjoy.
LESSON STYLE
In my previous teaching I have a very sound based approach. Everything will be easier and more fun if we can produce a good sound and tone out of the instrument. I have used this method in all of my previous students and found their niche to what they need to make lessons and their playing more enjoyable. We work at the students pace and make sure they are always ready to move on. This method fosters complete understanding of subjects so we can keep building and expanding their musical knowledge.
