I love music, always have and always will! Being an instructor allows for me to continue to work in the field I love by helping others master their talents. In 2014 I graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Professional Music. Throughout the years I have performed all over the country and outside of the US as well. I have had the pleasure of performing in festivals, major events and tours. My musical journey has taught me a lot about my own voice and stage presence. Those lessons have allowed me the ability to share my experiences and knowledge with willing students. My goal is to always create an environment where not only I’m teaching but learning at the same time. I look forward to learning and building with you!
EXPERIENCE
I began giving private vocal lessons back in 2015 when I was living in Los Angeles, CA. That time in life taught me so much especially about working with young children. I later went on to move back to the east coast and began substitute teaching in public schools for music. This allowed me to master working with younger students. Substitute teaching also allowed me to learn how to provide the proper amount of structure and fun in lessons. Growing up I was always told “practice makes perfect”, though as I grew I realized music is art and art was never meant to be perfect. I do make sure to encourage all of my students to practice as it does help make you a better musician, but perfection is never the goal. Music is an expression and a gift that should always be treated as such. I teach patience in my lessons because with time comes greatness, so with practice and patience students will see the fruits of their labor.
METHODS USED
For younger students, I typically begin with stage presence. I mostly focus on stage presence with all of my students regardless of age but usually always with younger students. I find that younger students sometimes have such huge talent and voices but don’t quite know how to perform in a way that fully demonstrates their true ability. That is where I come in the picture, to help the students discover ways of being able to give a stellar musical performance. For my older students I always try and find out what they would like to focus on specifically. I usually begin with what they feel their musical strengths and weaknesses are. From there we build up their strengths and create newer strengths. I create my own personal lesson plans to cater to each individual student. It is important to me to always allow my students to have fun, music should always be enjoyed even while practicing and learning.
LESSON STYLE
For students I ask that you have printed lyrics and instrumentals for our lessons. Microphones can be used in lessons as well. Equipment*** - Large mirror (for practicing in front of)- microphone – sound system to play instrumentals. I specifically love working on stage presence, I feel this area tends to be overlooked. Being able to sing a song extremely well is essential but being able to perform that song extremely well is a completely different task. I want to be able to help my students bridge the gap between singing and performing. I believe greatness is shaped from patience and dedication. I also teach all levels from beginners to advanced. Being a vocal instructor has been incredibly rewarding thus far and I look forward to working with you!
