Bachelor Degree: Metropolitan University of Denver
I’m an easy-going instructor who wants to share his passion and joy playing guitar with others who are willing to try. I graduated from Metro Denver in 2014 with a BA in music. I’ve been playing guitar for 22 years. I am a singer-songwriter with a major focus on indie acoustic. I love to motivate and encourage others and feel I bring a unique approach to learning an instrument. No matter the age, if you have the willingness and drive to learn, I can help and support you learn or improve. I look forward to providing growth and there’s no limit to what we can learn.
My teaching experience started when I was still in high school. I held private lessons when I was 18 and had 10 students who I regularly met with. Once I became more serious about pursuing music as a career, I went to college to obtain a degree. During my time there, I taught private lessons again and had approximately 20 students at any given time. My focus is to teach students what they want to learn. I want them to feel free to explore many different genres and feel confident to express themselves and create and compose what they feel is music important to them. I’m in the joy business. Music is joy.
For students who are beginners, my major focus is getting them used to the guitar. Comfortable holding the guitar, understanding the strings and notes, basic chords and an overall comfort with finger positioning. For those who may have some experience or are older, the focus is to speak about what their goals and interests are. This will help guide the teaching style as we progress. Regardless, my main focus with every student is to have fun and ensuring the student is encouraged and motivated to continue coming back.
My teaching style reflects the type of person I am. I am very laid back and patient and love to build meaningful connections with others but in the same vein I have high standards for my students. I want to motivate them and build a culture so that they are excited and don’t get discouraged when things are hard. The proven philosophy is to mentor a student with positivity and creating a safe environment to allow them to explore their creativity while still creating SMART goals to ensure they are progressing in a meaningful way.
