Overview:

Hello! I am a Junior jazz trombone and music education student at the University of Michigan. I come from a musical family, both of my parents are musicians. Teaching is one of the most fulfilling things for me, especially with the thing I love most, music! Being from Michigan, I have lots of connections with local musicians and directors at schools, and of course at the University of Michigan. I hope to one day have a private studio in the future, and to continue teaching music for as long as I can.

EXPERIENCE

I have taught many private students in the past in a variety of different age groups, instruments, and musical genres. I am currently doing field work each week working with younger students in classrooms at schools such as Saline Middle School and Ann Arbor STEAM. I have experience in marching band, lead trombone playing in jazz big band, solo work/jazz combo playing, musical theater music/pit playing, and classical playing. I am currently involved in the University of Michigan's top jazz ensemble as the second trombone player, lead trombone in musical theater pits (currently performing A Chorus Line!), as well as leading my own large and small jazz combos, in addition to consistently working on my own personal classical and jazz playing skills!

METHODS USED

Being a music education student, I learn about many methods of teaching that can cater to a variety of different people and musicians. I typically like to create practice sheets, so that progress can be tracked over time. Assessments will be based on effort, and minor improvements over a long period of time, as music takes a lot of patience and time to really improve! I will allow students to bring what they may want to work on, as well as recommendations from myself on some exercises/repertoire to check out. I believe I am a friendly teacher, and I like to have fun in lessons!

LESSON STYLE

Seeing my students succeed is one of the most gratifying things for me. Success in students can be measured in so many ways, and each individual will have different goals. My job is to match my students where they are at, and try to bring them to the next level. Working with individual students, I like to get the opinion of the student as to what they believe they want to work on, and use that an overlying theme for what we work on, as well as what I recommend. I have experience working with students who feel they know exactly what they need to work on, as well as students who may not know! Either is completely fine, that is why I am here, and I want to help you get to where you want to be!

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
