Overview:
I have over 24 years experience as a recording and touring guitarist and published songwriter. I have recorded and performed globally and have shared live bills with everyone from NIN and Pearl Jam to Social Distortion and Robert Plant. I've performed live on national television and had a recurring role as a musician on the TV show Nashville on ABC. I graduated Lindenwood University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music with emphasis in Classical Guitar Performance. I have seen the world because of music and I'm excited to share my experience with students.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching my Senior year of high school. For 15 years, I ran a private teaching studio working with students of all ages and skill levels. Some of my students have gone on to study music in college, including students at the prestigious Berklee College of Music. One of my former students also went on to sign a major recording contract. I strive to create an inspiring, fun atmosphere for learning - emphasizing regular practice with the primary goal of building confidence through learning music.
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I begin with Mel Bay's Method. I'll introduce popular songs the student enjoys listening to. A student learning how to play a song by his/her favorite artist goes a long way to build confidence and passion for the instrument. For adults, I find what the student is interested in, and guide my lessons according to his/her goals - keeping the lessons engaging and fun, regardless of skill level. My goal is to get the student playing music as quickly as possible.
LESSON STYLE
I want to set my students up for success. It's important for each student to move at his/her own pace. My studio has a relaxed atmosphere. Each student learns differently. I will do my best to tailor the lessons to the goals, needs and abilities of each student. I want to know what inspires the student. Acknowledging accomplishments helps drive students to progress - motivating the student to learn more. It is rewarding to see my students develop - Watching the small victories as the student grows into a blossoming musician.
