BA, Ohio State University; additional study in music education, performance, theory, aural training, and piano pedagogy at the collegiate level and over 12 years of professional training and experience.
Overview:
I have always felt an innate passion for music. From a young age, you could be sure to find me by my family's upright piano - either plunking pretend melodies on its keys or hiding in the magical world I thought existed behind it. Soon, I joined every performing and competitive ensemble I could. Each new form of music and expression was wonderful to me. Singing, theater, mallet percussion, vibraphone, saxophone, jazz, learning different musical forms, I couldn't get enough! Songwriting and music have always filled my soul, but it was the amazing educators in my life who inspired me to educate and share that passion in return.
EXPERIENCE
I have 12+ years of experience teaching all ages, performing, and songwriting. I was drawn to education and instruction from a young age, and began helping younger musicians through a local mentoring program, then volunteered as a student tutor and teacher's aide in musical and english programs. I later began instructing private students and gigging professionally while working on my songwriting - joining and eventually leading a songwriting organization, participating in and coordinating programming with industry professionals. I love nothing more than to share the love of music with all and enjoy performing regularly, sharing space with other musicians, and organizing community events.
METHODS USED
I strongly value theory and technical groundwork, but I also believe in guiding students toward the genres and compositions where they will find their own passion for music. With a solid foundation and an inner drive to keep playing, even beginner musicians can reach goals that may have previously seemed insurmountable.
For beginners, we will start with the fundamentals and focus on pieces that they can master and enjoy as we work towards more complex repertoire and playing styles. I like to select materials specific to each student to best meet the individual's learning style.
LESSON STYLE
Establishing a trusting and balanced bond between teacher and student is imperative to musical growth. Everyone has their own tastes, goals and preferred learning and communication styles. I take pride in embracing more of a mentoring approach, tailoring my teaching style and materials to each individual student in hopes of guiding them on their musical journey rather than choosing it for them.
I believe in creating a strong basis of knowledge in theory, technique, and composition (at the levels appropriate for the student's current progress). I also like to focus on the student's particular strengths and weaknesses while also embracing what makes them passionate about playing - whether this is a style of playing or type of music, we can encourage that natural love of music and help it grow!

Tiffany is great...very patient and tailors the lessons to my son's interests but also challenges him to go above and beyond. We are very happy with Tiffany's work!
