Overview:
I am a professional musician that has successfully thrived in Los Angeles and Nashville. I have Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theater from AMDA. There I learned the importance of learning from actual working professionals, not just teachers. The information I provide to my students is fresh and inspiring because I am practicing what I preach daily in my life. I've made a living off of music for the last 8 years in many different fields: Recording, Demo Singing, Acting, Songwriting, Voiceover, and Playing live. The last of which is my favorite and what matters most to me. My favorite quote from school "You sing because the emotional stakes are lifted to a place where you can not reach without it, it is simply a need of the situation."
EXPERIENCE
I started teaching in college when my current voice coach suggested it. The best way to learn material is to teach it, because in order to teach it you must know it inside and out. I can tell you that this lesson was one of the most rewarding discoveries of my career. I sincerely enjoy sharing my knowledge and love watching the development of a new singers. Building a strong voice gives confidence and power. My students always leave the lesson feeling better than they came in. I puch them vocally in a way that is challenging and fun. The proper fundamentals and material is the focus of the lessons. How to properly execute the technique while emotionally conveying the story. This allows the students to not focus on their insecurities, which is usually the biggest hurdle in a new singers journey.
METHODS USED
Before I start working with any client, I find out exactly why they've sought out vocal lessons and what their goals are. Then It all starts with breathing. The student will learn how to properly excersize the correct muscles when singing, and then will vocalize with the piano. We must start with pitch! Then there will be songs to learn that both the student suggest and I pick, based on what I think will help their development most. There will be bi-weekly master classes that students have the option of attending to perform for other students, and learn from watching (This is a big learning tool). But as I said it is optional. The student will always be working toward their goal while enriching their musical taste. I really enourage live performance, and will provide ample performance opportunities. This of course will go through parents first in regards to any students that are minors.
LESSON STYLE
I'm all about encouragement and accountability. I tailor each lesson to the student, based on their goals and what they need to succeed. My students want to work hard because I work hard for them. Music is not a chore, it's a passion, and that is an important distinction that is very clear in my method. The basis of my teaching style for all students is vocal health and artistic exploration. There are many different ways to use the voice, and some ways are more damaging than others. I teach students to be mindful of their instrument as well as finding the way to create the sound they ultimately would want to hear.
