Overview:
Welcome to my profile! My name is Timothy Martuch and I hail from Fenton Michigan. I currently am Full-Time Faculty of Audio and Music at the Art Institute of Michigan, where I teach classes on music theory, audio technology, audio recording, production, and more. I earned my Master of Fine Arts in film score from the Academy of Art University and I earned my Bachelor of Arts in music from Adrian College. I have had the great fortune to have performed in some incredible venues, including Carnegie Hall, Hill Auditorium, Trafalgar Square in the UK, Piazza Del Popolo Rome, and dozens of local venues in Michigan.
EXPERIENCE
I began teaching music in high school, a friend coworker had a son that wanted to learn trumpet and it was a fun way to make money. As I continued into college, I learned that I was able to give lessons to members of the band or choir as an employee to the Adrian College Academic Services Department and I was happy to do so. In addition to Adrian College students, I also gave lessons to local high schoolers (mostly tuba players) and many where featured and scored well in state Solo and Ensemble exhibitions. Since 2011, during the summers, I was an employee for the New York Summer Music Festival or NYSMF for short. I started at NYSMF as a counselor and music theory teacher and I later earned a position as TA and Commercial Voice-Over Teacher. The festival is a wonderful place that hosts 11 to 21 year olds at SUNY Oneonta for 2-week session jampacked with ensemble rehearsal, solo and ensemble performances, guest artist concerts, classes, faculty/staff or student showcases, masterclasses and so much more. During my last year of college and for a short while after I graduated, I worked as a piano teacher at Fenton's A Joyful Noise music studio, where I worked with students from 8 to 18 years of age. My singular goal as a teacher is to make a student love music as much as I do, the rest will take care of itself.
METHODS USED
For each instrument, I have the same basic approach: discover what they like, assess what they can do, and begin with the fundamentals.  If a student is more advanced, I still like to spend time on fundamentals at the beginning anyway to see if we can fill in any foundational weakness that the student may have.   For each instrument, I also have a wide array of repitoire that I give students that zero-in on technical challenges a student will be presented with. The ultimate goal for me as a teacher is not to teach my students everything there is to know, but rather, to give my students the ability to become enthusiastic and self-sufficiant musicians, to get students ready to engage in higher music education (if they choose that path), and to teach students that engaging in meaningful art should be fun.
LESSON STYLE
I like to give fun, free feeling lessons. While I go into each lesson with a goal in mind, I enjoy going on brief tangents for life lessons, performance tips, or applicable and funny stories. I am known to be very animated and energetic as a teacher and I have learned that students feed off of this energy, allow us to be more productive which results in outcomes that are significantly greater. I like to focus on fundamentals and excellent musical character before working into repertoire and I have had a great deal of success with my students, having used this approach.

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
