Overview:
I'm a patient and encouraging teacher who fully focuses on developing a student's musical interest and talents. In 2012, I graduated from Lehman College with a Masters in Music Education. In 2008, I graduated from The City College of Music with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Jazz Performance. As a Music Educator, I've had the opportunity to inspire and enrich young minds to excel in music with the Rochester City School District, Yonkers Public Schools and various charter schools in New York City. As a performer, I've worked with the Dave Matthews Band, Andre Ward, John D'earth, off-Broadway rock musical "Characters" and in the film, "Kill Your Darlings".
EXPERIENCE
I've been teaching privately for 10 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for all my students. I've discovered that a combination of jazz and modern music as well as having fun can enhance a student's development and passion for playing music. I encourage my students to enter competitions, recitals and to start their own band playing cover songs and original songs.
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements as well as learn the basic techniques on how to play the saxophone. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, regardless of their ability level.
LESSON STYLE
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students having fun learning and playing music. Furthermore, being encouraging and acknowledging their accomplishments builds discipline, confidence and desire to continue to play music. For me, seeing this happen brings me joy!
