Hello! I have been professional musician and educator since 2015 in Central and Southeast Pennsylvania. In 2018, I graduated from Millersville University with a B.A. in Trombone performance. I then enlisted into the United States Marine Corps band as a trombone instrumentalist, where I served active duty for four years. Just recently I have enlisted into the Air Force as a trombonist with the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast. Outside of the military, I teach private lessons and perform freelance commitments. I am enthusiastic and cater to each student to ensure their success!
My performance and education career began as early as my freshman year of college. I have been fortunate to perform over 1,800 professional commitments in my career as well as teaching roughly 25 students. Some performance highlights of my career have been performing on four national tours, playing two contracts with the Hershey Park band, recording with different artists, and of course performing with the Marine Corps and the Air Force bands. Some highlights of teaching have been helping students reach their goals of earning chairs in festival ensembles as well as just making difficult music "click" with my students!
My methods vary from student to student. I believe strongly in making sure students are learning what they want to learn and adapting to every students needs! While I will employ different techniques with each student, I do tend to use several concepts universally. I like to use a Kodály based system to teach all styles of music. All music is taught through internalization by listening and analyzing and then emulation of what is heard. Most teachers will first start with reading music and instrument technique. While I teach both of these concepts too, it is MOST important to be constantly interacting with the music itself. After all, enjoying what we hear is what sparks our interest in music in the first place!
My teaching style is adaptive to the students goals! I am a fairly easy going teacher that will help meet students where they are at, and walk with them on their growth journey. We will progress at the student's personal pace. My style can range from working casually on a new song each week, trying to perfect that concerto you have been working on, helping pre-professionals get to the musical level they need to achieve to become a professional themselves, or somewhere in the middle! My only focus is helping student's reach their goals, whatever their goal may be.
