EXPERIENCE
My Teaching dates back to my 11th grade year in high school. I've kept a consistent basis teaching children and performing master classes at local school like North Side High School in Columbus Georgia. My teaching career continues in schools from Powder Springs to Chattanooga. I had the pleasure of growing up with a Music Educator father who pushed me to stay consistent in the persuit of my goals. I love performing just as much as I love teaching. I believe that experience through practice and performance is the best teacher. I encourage any student to leave it all on the table each time they play, and to pretend that each practice rehearsal is a performance. Small steps with marked progress equal motivated students. I make saxophone interesting.
METHODS USED
For beginning students who are children I like to start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Most schools use this book and I feel its a great beginning method. I start them working on tone and ear training. There is no one size fits all learning companion so I really like to see what the students interests are and find what really works for them. The instructional book helps establish a basic understanding of the fundamentals. For intermediate and advanced students(late teens and adults) we'll take a look at what your interests are, work on solo rep. and technique.
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is like water. I like things to flow, smoothly with the natural tendencies of the student. We'll have realistic goals that we'll aim for each week. We'll do a lot of duets and discuss the music and the sax. Each student is different so for each and every one I have a tailored approach. We wont be bored or have things become mundane, but we will work. I think passion is essential and developing an understanding of music and the instrument leads to a deeper passion and love of both.
