"Nashville Session Players" Touring musician and recording artist Chattanooga Symphony and Orchestra Kentucky Section Violinist
Overview:
I am a graduate of Millikin University's performance program and have been fortunate enough to perform all over the world. Music is life for me and I enjoy the "Light bulb" moments when the students are learning and the fingers just work!
My students have been very successful in competitions ranging from college scholarships to Ms. Tennessee. I will teach to get you where you want to go! I believe we have to learn the basics first, and then we can work towards your goal. It doesn't matter if you've never touched the instrument before, have played and put it down for awhile, or perform regularly, we will have fun learning and reach our goals.
EXPERIENCE
I have been teaching for over 20 years. My students have won many awards including college scholarships and the talent portion of Ms. Tennessee. I have taught all ages and all experience levels. We all start out learning basic concepts which will give us good posture and technique, then we will move forward toward the goals you want to reach. You don't have to be young to start playing! I have taught many adults including those who use the teachings for mobility and enjoyment. Playing the violin is not only fun and educational, but is also a way to keep us healthy, physically and mentally.
METHODS USED
I use the Suzuki method as well as the Doflein method books, and will choose other specific methods depending on what else the student would like to learn and what will help develop style, technique, and musicality. We will also have fun with seasonal and holiday music. Playing the violin is not about burying your head in a piece of music and learning just for memorization. It's about having fun, enjoying the music, making it musical, and most of all, loving what you are doing. If you're not having fun, you're not doing it right!
LESSON STYLE
My teaching style is pretty simple...Teach for enjoyment!
I use the Suzuki method for classical teaching. Beginners will have fun learning correct posture and technique. For intermediate level students, I build on what they already know as well as improve basic skills that may have been overlooked. For those who already play at a high level, I use coaching techniques to help make the sound more musical and enjoyable for the listener. For the country and bluegrass players, we will have fun reviewing what you already know, and build your repertoire so you can host your own jam!
