I am Professional musician with a deep appreciation and passion for composing, performing and teaching music. I graduated from the Hartt School of Muisc in 2014 with a degree in Jazz Studies. Since then I have been constantly studying and performing various styles of music which has built an ability to be adaptable to almost any situation. I am enthusiastic about sharing knowledge and helping others by bringing real world experience together with formal musical training to cultivate a positive and exciting environment that encourages creativity and learning.
One of my first experiences teaching was in 2010 as a freshmen in college. I would teach my roommate different scales and some basic music theory. I really enjoyed helping him connect the dots and found it made a huge difference in the music we played together. To this day him and i are still close friends and are still making music together 8 years later. Since graduating college in 2014 my time has mostly been spent performing and touring. I love getting a chance to teach lessons to people that I have met at these shows and I am looking to take on more students of all ages and skill levels!
I find it is incredibly important to spend the time early on making sure your technique and form is sound and strong. This will start you off with a solid foundation that will help you play what ever musical styles you wish. I like to start students off with simple scales and melodies that will build up your dexterity, muscle memory and general ability to play the instrument. Once you can work your way around the instrument you can start learning more lessons about reading music, ear training and improvisation.
In my opinion a big part of playing music is being creative, and a big part of being creative is having fun. When teaching I always make sure there is a positive environment that encourages learning and growth. I have found the best way for a student to learn and improve is by having so much fun playing that they can't put the instrument down. This excitement about music and learning is what I prioritize the most. I strive to ignite that passion in all of my students by finding out what each student is specifically interested in and motivated by and focusing on that.
