Music is my life. On any given day I am either performing, rehearsing, recording, teaching or studying. I perform on a regular basis with my Jazz trio and other artists from various genres. I also perform with my original band iNFiNiEN. Our latest CD has been internationally critically acclaimed. It has been considered "a masterpiece" and "one of the year's best" by many critics." I have received 2 music degrees for Jazz performance and continue to push myself to practice and study new ideas on drums and piano everyday. Most recently I have been learning how to record and use electronic instruments in my private rehearsal studio. Every day is a great when music is being played!
I began teaching Drums at a local Music Store on Saturday mornings while still in College. Teaching helped propel my interest in Drums and Music as I continued my education at College. Most students studied with me for years at at time. I began picking up more and more students at the store until I had a full schedule 3 days a week. My love and dedication to music made teaching and explaining music to others, simple ....and fun. For me, there is nothing more fulfilling then sharing the gift of music.
Playing the Drum Set requires strength in a few key areas. Hand to Hand Coordination, 4 limb interdependence , rhythm vocabulary and Timing. No matter what your skill level is we'll always need to maintain it. The saying is, "if you don't use it you lose it". No matter your skill level I believe it's important to understand what it takes to maintain the physical performance on your instrument. That's why I encourage students to memorize songs and exercises. That way there is no doubt they have learned the material.
I believe every student is unique and will need to improve in different areas for different reasons. Every student will have a specific taste in music so I always to try design lessons based on the music style they enjoy most. I will also introduce new music to keep them inspired. But, in general I have found the best teaching style is to both agree on a list of songs to learn. From those songs I will subscribe a list of related exercises to help make the song easier to play. Some enjoy learning via reading, others prefer listening or watching. No matter your preference I can help you.
