Half musician and half computer programmer, I graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Theory and Composition. Since then I have been performing original electronic music in the greater NYC/Fairfield area. I've completed a CELTA certificate from Cambridge University and have adapted their teaching methods to that of the language of music. I develop my own software, synthesizers, and tools to assist me in my musical journey, and hopefully yours.
I began teaching in early college, tutoring a little in computer science and a little in music theory - until the main music theory tutor graduated. I took over his position and have had a blast since. The main goal of any lessons is the inspire the student to fall in love with whatever the subject matter, and luckily - music is easy to fall in love with! After college i completed a CELTA course from Cambridge, which is a certificate in teaching english to speakers of other languages. I have adapted some of their methods of teaching to the language of music.
For students who are just beginning their musical journey, we will explore the fundamentals of the piano with some classic technique and home made exercises, as well as knowledge on key musical theory topics. Understanding the theory behind the notes unlocks important aspects of both the music and the piano. From there we will progress into pieces of music ranging in emotion and style, whether for performance or personal gratification. I try to cater the lesson to your needs, wants and ability, as enjoyment is key!
Nothing brings me more joy than seeing someone accomplish their goals, especially when its something as special as music. Setting goals and tackling them step by step plays a huge role in learning anything, and piano is no different. Small goals quickly become big ones as they are stacked on top one another, bringing about a sense of accomplishment from the student - propelling them even further and inspiring their will to bring about further success.
