I am a passionate, motivated, and an experienced music instructor. I have been playing guitar and other various instruments since I was 11 - I'm currently in my mid thirties. I graduated in 2014 with an Associates degree in music from Sierra Community College, where my main focus was guitar and composition. Soon after, I transferred into Sacramento State's guitar program where I gained extensive knowledge of guitar scales, chords, and applicable techniques that make every day playing more enjoyable and professional. I truly love playing and teaching guitar. Let me share the gift of guitar with you or someone you love.
I began teaching Guitar and Piano during college as a way to expand my playing and teaching skills. Over the years I gained extensive knowledge of teaching techniques and how to work with students at all levels, ages, backgrounds, and understanding of theoretical music application. I handle my students with care, respect, and motivate them through positive reinforcement of their milestones while learning. Moreover, I have taught guitar and piano to over 200 students in the last decade - many have pursued careers in music, and some have even surpassed my accomplishments.
No matter the skill level, I like to keep my curriculum concise, applicable, and easy for all students to understand. I begin with a crash course in music fundamentals to give students a classical understanding of their playing, reading, and writing techniques. Next, I teach them scales, chords, and playing techniques that correlate with their level of playing and music comprehension. Once they have mastered said curriculum I teach them songs that they are genuinely interested in. As student's skill level increases, I introduce new curriculum that keeps them progressing, motivated, interested and challenged. I am a strong believer in positive reinforcement, and always approach my students with care and optimism as to lift them up no matter the musical challenge they face. Everyone has to start somewhere, and even the greats needed help along the way.
Nothing is more rewarding then seeing my student progress and overcome the difficulties of starting to play an instrument. Furthermore, it is very important that each one of my students progresses at their own pace. That being said, I encourage progression by setting realistic goals depending on the student's level. In addition, I create the students curriculum based on the styles of music students prefer as to keep their interest while giving them useful knowledge and techniques for any situation involving playing, improvising, or musical comprehension. In conclusion, I create a unique plan for each student depending on their level, interest, and over all needs.
