BA, Bennington College, Music
I'm a passionate and patient instructor who loves sharing the joy of music with others. Be it teaching a student chords, riffs and songs, or playing and performing with one of my bands, I'm constantly striving to grow as a musician and teacher.
I have been teaching music privately and in music schools for 10 years. I am a patient, supportive, and encouraging teacher who loves helping others broaden their knowledge and ability on their instrument. My ultimate goal as a teacher is to inspire my students in their studies, to provide them with the information they need to be able to be self-sufficient in their studies, and to show them how to be successful in their practice. And to have fun!
There are so many ways to approach music - via reading music, improvising, composing, playing by ear, and I make sure to include them all over the course of my lessons with students. I encourage students to bring songs that they are interested in learning, and also provide plenty of material to get them on their way to undersanding how to navigate both their instrument, and music. I usually use the Hal Leonard method for guitar students learning to read, and the Faber piano method for paino students. I provide lots of supplemental materials and songs along the way.
Nothing is more rewarding than seeing my students develop a passion for music! Its important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals at each lesson and by pointing out and acknowledging growth and success that each student has. By engaging in what inspires a student I tailor my instruction to their interests and needs.
