I am a passionate and motiviated pianist and instructor and love sharing my love of music with my students! I have been playing piano for 22 years, and graduated from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Management Systems and Piano Performance. I also earned a minor in music recording technology. I love playing piano for my church's worship services, and have had an opportunity to serve as an accompianist for a wide variety of musicians. I also perform at gigs across the region to promote my self-recorded album and singles, recorded here in my home studio!
I began teaching private lessons 9 yeras ago when some neighborhood friends encouraged me to share my love of music through teaching. Encouraging regular, consistent practice and keeping a journal of areas of focus during practice is one of the techniques I encourage for students of all ages to progress and grow in their enjoyment of the instrument. I love encouraging students to compose their own material, and to share their music in competitions and recitals, as a way to develop their passion for music and to stay motivated to learn. Most importantly, I want to share my love of music with others and ensure my students come to enjoy music as much as I do! I am always looking to bring on new students of all ages!
For beginning students who are children, I usually use the Alfred Music Piano Methods series, and include music theory and ear training as a part of the curriculum. Once students have grasped the fundamentals, I will introduce solo repertoire appropriate for receital performances to encourage and motivate their learning. For adult students, I love to spend time to figure out the students musical interests, and use the types of music they enjoy to guide my instruction so the lessons can be engaging and fun.
I am a third generation Rubinstin pianist, and integrating my love and passionn for technique and style of playing into my lessons. At each lesson, realistic goals will be set for students and documented in their learning journal. This also allows their accomplishments to be recognized and acknowledged, which will in turn help them to be eager to learn more.
