I'm currently a music major student at the University of Rochester and Eastman School of Music. I have previously studied Piano Performance at the Longy School of Music of Bard College, at Cambridge Massachusetts. Throughout my time at Longy, I was awarded prize for the highest GPA in the undergraduate population. I have also participated in competitions such as the Concerto Competition hosted at the Longy School, as well as the Steinway Young Artist Competition in HongKong. I believe that I am a pianist with proficient performance experience, and I'm advancing my skillsets at my current schools to reach a higher-level of myself!
I see music as my life, and I can't live without it! Throughout my career as a music student, I have taught music/piano lessons to kids who are disposed with ADHD as well as Down-Syndrome; I had good amount of experience working with kids, and was able to spark their inner musical self throughout being their teacher. I also have experience working with advanced, pre-conservatory students who wish to prepare for college music auditions or other musical endeavors. As a music teacher, I believe the most important duty for me is to spark a life-long interest for music for my students, and I'll see it as the main goal for every lessons with my students!
For beginning students, I'd introduce the mechanism of the piano to them to help better understand how the sound is produced through striking the keys. I will also start with technique-building books such as Hanon, Czerny, as well as some easy beginner repertoire for them to learn. for intermediates to advanced level students, I would provide them with a more sophisticated list of repertoires, or any pieces they wish to learn! Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level.
Nothing is more rewarding to me than seeing a student develop a genuine passion for music! I believe that every student learns best when they are progressing at their own pace. To support this, I set realistic, individualized goals at each lesson, helping students build a strong foundation while acknowledging each step forward. Celebrating these accomplishments fuels their desire to learn and makes them eager to dive deeper into their studies. I take time to understand each student's unique inspirations and interests, tailoring my instruction to meet their personal goals. By connecting theory and practice with what excites each student, I strive to make lessons engaging and relevant, allowing them to experience the joy and fulfillment that music brings. Through this approach, I aim to cultivate a lifelong appreciation for music that extends beyond the classroom.
