Overview:
I'm passionate about my students to desire to learn an instrument. It will last a lifetime and open so many doors. It did for me and I like to share my experiences with my students. After leaving Towson State, I've done extensive traveling with bands and shows throughout the USA and Asia. Teaching guitar seems like a natural fit after all I've learned. I never stop learning. I can always learn from anyone - even my students. My live show experiences bring a lot to the table for students.
EXPERIENCE
I've been teaching for over 10 years. I first try to figure the students' taste and style of music. I teach songs they like and want to learn. My theory is, there's a lesson in every song. I want lessons to be informative, educational and enjoyable. I strive to develop the student into a confident, proud musician that feels comfortable playing in any situation - not just at lesson time. I encourage all my students to interact and play with other students any chance they get, whether at school or friends
METHODS USED
I use a variety of methods: tablature seems to be the preferred method for most guitarist/ukulele students. It's easy to learn. The 'tab' method allows me to teach more current music. I also use method books by Mel Bay and Hal Leonard and other method systems that apply to the particular student. I use whatever is available as far as teaching materials whether it be a method book or magazine lessons. Sometimes I write out by hand what I'm trying to teach because it's not available in print.
LESSON STYLE
I first try to discover the student's knowledge of the instrument and find out their current level of experience. At that point, I can design a structured lesson plan around that. I'm very patient so I try to learn the student's pace and level of endurance. I always ask to see if the student has any issues with something they have learned in a past lesson. The guitar can be a challenging instrument due to its physical challenges. It's not like playing piano, where you just place your hands on a keyboard and get sound. I always joke with my students: 'there's a reason rock guitar players make funny faces when they play solos, flesh fingers against steel strings can be painful at times...'

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
