Overview:
I knew from the day I heard my middle school band teacher playing his saxophone that that was what I wanted to do. The passion has only continued to grow for me, and I want to pass my knowledge and passion onto my students. I graduated from Western Washington University in 2016 with a BA in music and a minor in audio recording. Upon graduating, I quickly immersed myself in the music scene of Bellingham by joining two local bands, both of which recorded albums that I am featured on and contributed some of my song writing abilities to. I currently live in Snohomish, attend jam sessions in Seattle, am a part of a band lead by Brian James called Brian James and The Great Unknown, and teach both privately at another music school and at Skyview Middle School as an instructional assistant for their woodwind sections.
EXPERIENCE
I started off by giving friends mini lessons back in college. I then moved on to teaching privately out of a music school and realized from that point, that I really enjoy teaching and sharing my knowledge and passion with others. I find it rewarding and fulfilling to see my students get excited about learning music, my aim is to further grow their passion and thirst for musical knowledge. I believe no student will want to learn if they don't feel excited about the subject, this is why I find ways to package the somewhat dry and tedious parts of music into a more exciting and palatable chunks.
METHODS USED
If the student has no experience with music or the instrument, I will start them off with the very basics, such as: how to properly put together/take apart your instrument, proper care for the instrument, how to form a supportive and correct embouchure. This will also be accompanied by multiple books, which I usually recommend getting Essential Elements 2000 for complete beginners . We then have a foundation we can build on. For older students, I may ask them what their interest and goals are and then build a customized lesson plan based off their wants and needs. I want to keep my students engaged and having fun, no matter their level of experience.
LESSON STYLE
The goal for me as the teacher is to get the student excited about music while simultaneously improving. I set realistic goals and will work at the pace that each student needs. Understanding their particular learning style is vitally important to the success of music lessons, I do this by listening to students wants and needs and develop a curriculum based off of how it makes sense to them and their brain. Everyone is different, and music is an abstract concept to grasp. Being patient and understanding that some concepts might not make sense when explained the first time is normal! I will work with that student on whatever is confusing to them until it finally clicks. Seeing a student finally understand something they struggled with previously is one of the most rewarding parts about teaching.

I have learned so much, Tyler is so patient with me and understands that this is hard. He has a great sense of humor and puts things in easy to understand language.
