I Have performed and recorded with artists such as Brass Against, Joe Bataan, High and Mighty brass band, Drumadics, and more. I have been working as a full time musician for over 10 years. I have experience with many different styles of music, such as jazz, latin jazz, classical, rock, soul, funk, salsa, and more!
My teaching experience began in high school, when I did my senior project on music education. Ever since then I have made teaching a regular part of my life. All of the amazing teachers in my life have helped me realize how important it is to pass down things that I have learned to the younger generations. In order to keep certain styles of music alive, they must be celebrated and taught to those who which to learn! My lessons focus on meticulous analyzing of the student's technique, and at the same time diving into the culture and history of the styles of music that they wish to play! The main goal is to help my students improve, in whatever way that I can.
I was a student of Laurie Frink, who is widely regarded as the greatest trumpet/brass teacher to ever live. I use alot of her methods to teach students who are intermediate/advanced level. This includes her book, "flexus", along with a number of exercises tailored to the student. Laurie always found a way to teach every student differently, based on their weaknesses and strengths. My goal is to do the same. No two trumpet players are alike, and when i take on a new student I always try to learn as much about them as I can before we delve into specific methods or books.
I have taught students that are ABSOLUTE beginners, and I have taught students that are almost ready to become professionals. One thing that remains the same throughout is that I try to discover what my student is trying to gain from my guidance. I ALWAYS will look for what I can offer the student, inside and out of the lesson studio. When you take me on as a teacher, not only am I an open book for you while in lessons, I am someone that you can text/call anytime if you are getting frustrated, and I am someone that you can invite to your first gig! It can be a rough world sometimes for us musicians and I truly believe that we have to stick together. That's how the best music is made!!!
